Applet: Elevation and Azimuth of the Sun

Elevation and azimuth of the Moon

Elevation and azimuth of the Sun and the Moon

Applet: Azimuth, Latitude, Hour Angle, Declination

Select your location from the menu list, or enter the coordinates (decimal degrees) for the latitude, and press RETURN, and for the longitude, and press RETURN:

Check the time zone to get the correct local times.

To get this data window select "Day" from the write menu:

The true elevation angles of the Sun are not corrected for atmospheric refraction, which is bending the light while passing through the Earth's atmosphere. The refraction R is calculated by Saemundsson's formula (Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms):

h is the true (airless) elevation in degrees, R is in minutes of arc. The apparent (measured) elevation is h+R.
